Il DGA Award, premio assegnato dal Directors Guild of America (ovvero il sindacato dei registi) è uno dei più forti indicatori per quanto riguarda gli Oscar. Quest’anno è Alfonso Cuaron a portarsi a casa il premio per Gravity, film fantascientifico ambientato nello spazio con protagonisti Sandra Bullock e George Clooney. Il Robert B. Aldrich Service Award è invece stato assegnato a Steven Soderbergh, che si è portato a casa il premio anche per il miglior film tv Behind the Candelabra, mentre Vince Gilligan ha vinto per la serie tv Breaking Bad.
