La cerimonia ufficiale dei Primetime Emmy Awards si è tenuta ieri sera al Microsoft Theatre di Los Angeles ed è stata presentata da Andy Samberg, stella del Saturday Night Live e frontman dei Lonely Island.
In tutte le categorie il network premium cable HBO ha spazzato via la concorrenza, aggiundicandosi l’Emmy nelle categorie Miglior Serie Comedy (Veep – Vicepresidente incompetente, che ha portato via il record di sei premi consecutivi a Modern Family) e Miglior Serie Drammatica (Il Trono di Spade). Una doppietta illustre che non riusciva a nessuno da ben 13 anni – l’ultimo a realizzarla fu NBC nel 2002 con The West Wing -. Successo poi arricchito anche da Olive Kitteridge, miniserie che ha trionfato con 6 statuette!
Agli altri network le briciole, visto che le altre statuette importanti vengono vinte da Transparent di Amazon (che porta a casa 5 premi) e Orange is the New Black di Netflix (Uzo Aduba, per aver interpretato Suzanne Warren/Crazy Eyes).
Il Trono di Spade ha battuto il record del maggior numero di statuette vinte in un’unica edizione degli Emmy: sono ben 12 i premi ritirati (8 Creative Emmy, oltre ai 4 di ieri sera) ed è la prima volta che a vincere il numero più alto di premi sia una serie fantasy.
Ma il momento storico più importante della serata è stata la statuetta a Viola Davis, per il suo ruolo in Le Regole del Delitto Perfetto: è la prima donna afroamericana a vincere l’Emmy come migliore attrice in una serie drammatica. Lo stesso riconoscimento, al maschile, va invece a Jon Hamm per Mad Men (e possiamo dire ERA ORA! considerando otto nomination consecutive e nessun premio fino ad oggi).
Julia Louis-Dreyfus vince il suo quarto emmy per Veep (ed il suo sesto, su 20 nomination).
